Biotech Stocks Revive, Aided by New Drug Approvals

Perform, a San Francisco-based digital fitness startup, raised $1.2 million in pre-seed funding led by defy.vc, with participation from Techstars, the chief product officer of Calm, the former chief product officer of Uber, the co-founder of Fitbod, and other technology executives.

How fitness startup Perform convinced an Olympic legend to back its idea of bringing elite coaching to average runners — and raised $1.2 million from investors

One fitness startup is working to bring personalized coaching to the
large and dedicated running community — and just convinced VCs to
back its idea and a marathoning legend to join its team.

Perform, which offers online running coaching using human coaches
and AI, has launched with a $1.2 million pre-seed round, Insider has
learned. Defy.vc led the round, with Techstars, the chief product
officers of Calm and Uber, and the cofounder of fitness startup Fitbod, also investing.

VCs are wary of the rising popularity of alternative financing startups like Capchase and Clearco. Here’s why.

“There’s always going to be demand in this segment, and even more so in the current market environment when equity financings have become more challenging,” Rosin said. “What is new is the ability of SaaS companies to take advantage of their recurring revenue streams to generate a new form of financing.”
“Once SaaS businesses start using debt to extend their runway and reduce dilution, it’s hard to imagine them going back,” Rosin said. “We’ve seen very strong customer retention. And for providers like Capchase, their opportunity is to take advantage of the data set they have aggregated as launching points for complementary products and services.”

Interview: Incubus Guitarist Mike Einziger Talks Mixhalo, Touring, & Tech

CAMDEN, NJ (Fwrd Axis) — Summer is nearly over after a whirlwind of concerts and events are pretty much back in full swing. One tour that just started recently, however, is that of alternative rock band juggernauts Incubus. They are currently on tour with Sublime with Rome and The Aquadolls, keeping the rock and nostalgia alive for millions of concertgoers as we head into the Fall.

I was fortunate enough to catch up with guitarist Michael Einziger via Zoom while he awaited bus call to be shuttled to Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden, New Jersey to play a show on Friday, August 5th.

Mike and I have spoken before and met at that very same venue five years ago, just as his startup – a networking company called Mixhalo – was getting off the ground. Back then, I was completely blown away by the idea of what this tech could do, but even more so by the fact that it actually worked!

Nikhil Patel is the kind of founder who investors adore. He’s a brainiac who, before studying computer science at Yale, spent three years in high school working as a research associate at the University of Central Florida. “I started working there before I could drive, and it was the most embarrassing thing to get dropped off by my mom at the office,” he says with a laugh.
