A pitch to offer artists a way to give geo-fenced, live events to fans around the world has brought the new Los Angeles startup Moment House $1.5 million in seed funding.

Genemod was co-founded by Jacob Lee and Jin Choe, both University of Washington graduates. Defy.vc led the round, which included participation from Omicron, Unpopular Ventures, Underdog Labs, and Canaan Partners Scout Fund.

Genemod, a software for laboratory inventory management used by institutions like the University of Washington School of Medicine; the University of California, Berkeley; and the National Institutes of Health; has raised $1.7 million from a clutch of top venture investors.

Moment House, a platform that hosts ticketed live performances virtually, has officially launched thanks to a $1.5 million seed round led by Forerunner Ventures. Several angel investors including music industry veterans Jared Leto and Scooter Braun also participated.

The small seed round came from Defy.vc, with additional commitments from Omicron, Unpopular Ventures,  Underdog Labs and Canaan Partners.

Triller aspires to be the homegrown U.S. version of TikTok, and in recent weeks the video-sharing app has signed up high-profile users including teen influencer Charli D’Amelio and Donald Trump Jr.
