Triller, the developer of a short-form video-sharing app, is in the midst of raising a $250 million funding round that could value the startup at $1.25 billion, according to reports. The Los Angeles-based TikTok rival has reportedly raised more than $30 million in venture capital funding over the five years since it launched.

Despite Richards’ massive success on TikTok, he announced on July 28 that he is leaving the app and going to rival Triller. Triller debuted as a short form music content app in 2015 but has since added a social feature similar to TikTok.

As threats against TikTok mounted last month, four potential challengers—Triller, Zynn, Dubsmash and Byte—saw their installs collectively spike by more than 300 percent when compared to statistics from the week prior, Sensor Tower data shows.

The app has emerged as what many see as a TikTok replacement, but it has been around since 2015, two years before TikTok’s debut, and has its own “identity and ecosystem,” the founder insisted.

Social video app Triller jumped to the top of the App Store and is now ranked No. 1 in Top Free Apps. As TikTok faces uncertainty in the U.S. between being banned or bought, it continues to claim a high but lower ranking at No.3.

Triller, a video-sharing app that recently attracted some former TikTok influencers, has taken the top spot in the iOS App Store. App analytics firm Apptopia crunched the numbers and found U.S. downloads of Triller went from 5,675 on July 26 to 61,924 on Aug. 2. That’s an increase of nearly 11 times.
