“Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.”
Babe Ruth
As a general partner at defy, I am fortunate to partner with and support exceptional entrepreneurs from the earliest days. Whether through working on my own companies or by partnering with other founders, I’ve been fortunate to experience day zero to hyper-growth and everything in between. I’ve felt the ups and downs and the highs and lows that company building entails – I’ve felt like I was going to be hugely successful and that nothing was working 10 times all in the same hour. That’s entrepreneurship. It’s one of the hardest jobs in the world. Building a company takes grit and perseverance and it can be a really lonely experience.
That’s why one of the most important things I think founders can do, to arm themselves for the marathon that is company building, is to surround themselves with people they can trust and call on for anything big or small— I strive to be that for my founders.
Most recently, I was a Partner at Redpoint Ventures for seven years focused on early stage investments across fintech, vertical saas, marketplaces, and healthcare. I had the opportunity to partner with some incredible founders and category defining companies including Whatnot, Tend, Proper Finance, LiveKit, Anvyl, and others. It’s been incredible to see how far they have come since I originally became involved. I’ve learned a lot from these entrepreneurs and teams. I’m grateful that they let me join them in a small way on their journeys and equally grateful to call them friends.
I started my career at Bain & Company and also started and built 2 companies, skedge.me & Roomidex, before starting my investing career at Bessemer Venture Partners. Originally from the East Coast, I was born in New York and am the eldest of three children in an immigrant family. My parents modeled an incredible work ethic, insatiable desire for continuous improvement and humility that I continue to try to emulate today. Even today they work harder than anyone I know.
I studied Social Studies at Harvard College. A social science enthusiast at heart, I find the ways people interact to be fascinating. I’ve never come across a personality test (I’m an ESTJ) or social psychology theory that I didn’t find interesting! I also had the opportunity to row lightweight crew for the Harvard Radcliffe Varsity team. Playing sports—and rowing in particular—has been one of the most formative experiences of my life. The experience of being so physically and mentally exhausted that my whole body was on fire, feeling like I had nothing more I could possibly give, and then digging deeper to unlock more because my teammates were counting on me, is something I still carry with me. I’m so appreciative of rowing for showing me that. You can still find me squeezing in a workout every morning. Old habits die hard.
I moved to the Bay Area after attending Harvard Business School and am proud to call Marin home. Along with my husband and two kids, you can find me exploring the outdoors or spending time with friends most weekends.
I could not be happier to be a part of team defy, and to continue supporting the next generation of founders that are building category defining, generational companies.
